Heidi Schröck & Söhne, Rust 2026

Heidi Schröck holding the R wine brand

The story of a very old trademark: the "R" brand. Its story goes back to 27 June 1524, when Queen Maria of Hungary and Bohemia gave the people of Rust the right to burn an "R" into their wine barrels. It marked the wine's origin and protected their export rights. We drank wine with 500 years of history! In the case of the Schröck family: 300 years of winemaking history.

In June 2007 I wrote about Heidi Schröck's excellent sweet wines tasted at the winery in the central square of Rust. This tasting brought us to visit several times and made us admire her whole lineup.

Heidi Schröck & Söhne

The quality of the wines has remained exceptional under Heidi’s succession. Her twin sons, Georg and Johannes, are now deeply involved as partners in Heidi Schröck & Söhne, preserving the estate's character while bringing in new ideas and gradually broadening the range beyond the sweet wines Heidi is best known for.

The wines

Sekt, Pinot Blanc

Fruity, with an excellent aroma. Mineral and clay notes linger through a long, excellent finish. Made from 2021 & 2022 grapes. 92.

This is the first time we tasted a sparkling wine at this winery, awesome potential!

Furmint "Ruster Historie" 2025

Melon, ripe apricot and perfume come together, carried by excellent acidity into an excellent finish. Give it one year and it will develop really well. 90.

Rocks & Acid Reid Turner 2025

White flowers and a strong mineral character lead into a wonderful creamy finish. Very floral, with excellent acidity. Matured in Acacia cask. 92.

Rocks & Acid Reid Turner 2023

Banana and mineral notes interweave, with a harmonious finish and amazing potential for long maturation. Perfumed and truly excellent! 94.

Rocks & Acid is 100% Furmint, different from the Furmint bottling, it’s made from a single vineyard: Turner , with 30 years + old vines. It’s 100% matured in Acacia cask and has a lot more minerality.

Weissburgunder "Ruster Vertrauter" 2025

Lavender and peach weave through an amazing perfume. An excellent finish. We loved this wine! 92

Blaufränkisch, Ruster Ried Kulm 2024

Ripe cherries meet black pepper. Very tannic, with a long life ahead of it. Wonderful! 94.

Ruster Ausbruch "Auf den Flügeln der Morgenröte" 2023

Honeydew and passion fruit unfold in this acacia-barrel-aged wine, with a long, excellent finish. A wonderful wine. 96.

A little of Rust

As we exited the winery, Just across the street, storks were nesting above the houses. This is part of the special character of Rust: a town where the storks make themselves at home right in the middle of it.
